Filters were extracted into ultrapure (UP) water (Barnstead EasyPure II) by shaking (125 rpm) for 10 min, sonication (60 sonics min −1) for 30 min, followed by shaking (125 rpm) for 10 min. Extracts were filtered with 0.45 µ m syringe filters (PTFE, Whatman). Ions were analyzed by a Dionex ICS-5000 ion chromatograph (Dionex ASDV).
